The Ford folks are out in LA to intro the 2010 Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and 2009 Ford Mustang. Today we got a look at the Fusion Hybrid and were turned loose on the streets of Los Angeles to test its economy in the real world. First up, the reskin makes for a smarter and modern exterior. The grille work steps it away from looking like all the other look-a-likes in the mid-size sedan segment. Interior is now typically Ford above weight and price quality. Notably there’s a couple of TFT screens surrounding the speedo that are changeable to show all of the fun happening with the gas electric hybrid powertrain. The GUI on the Sync Navigation in the center stack also matches the look of these TFTs. Very trick. We’re not allowed to get into driving impressions, what with the embargo and all that, but we will report that we attained 43.4 mpg crossing the LA Westside on surface streets — exceeding the claimed 39 mpg EPA City numbers by Ford. Yes we were trying pretty hard, but even I’m impressed by the numbers and I am not a big Hybrid fan! Full story on Saturday.
