Shorter, wider, lower. No, not my hairline. I’m talking about Nissan’s newest sports car, the 370Z. But why shorter? Cars usually get bigger (and heavier) with each redesign, not smaller and lighter. For what it was, the Nissan 350Z was a perfectly OK Japanese muscle car. The price was nice, the power was competitive and the multi-link front suspension assured the handling was OK. And back in 2003, it even looked pretty cool. But see, good enough just isn’t the role a Z is supposed to play. Lots of folks (me included) credit the original 240Z with not only being the first serious Japanese sports car, but with raising the status of all Japanese cars from cheap, odd little boxes to the world dominators they are today. And while the 2010 370Z doesn’t quite fill those humungous shoes, it’s a major improvement over the 350Z.
